Individuals considering becoming a paramedic must first become certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Connecticut. Becoming an EMT can be accomplished by passing a state approved EMT class and then passing the state/national cognitive and psychomotor exams for their certification.
Once you are an EMT you can then complete a Paramedic program for certification. There are significant hours of classroom instruction, hands on skill instruction, and in the field clinical patient care that must be completed to become licensed.
The Paramedic Education Program offered by CPR Training Professionals in partnership with Yale New Haven Hospital Center for EMS is approved by the State of Connecticut Office of Emergency Medical Services and is accredited by the Commission in Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs through the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Profession. This comprehensive course is approximately 1800 hours (hybrid, didactic, clinical and field internship) and is designed as an advanced level program that trains the EMT/AEMT to the paramedic level based on the National Educational Standards.
During the course, the student will study advanced level anatomy and physiology and pathological processes. The student will learn advanced patient assessment techniques and treatment modalities including advanced airway management, IV insertion, fluid resuscitation, cardiac monitoring, drug and electrical therapies for medical and trauma-related emergences. At the conclusion of the program, students will be eligible to test at the paramedic level with the National Registry and will have earned certifications from the American Heart Association and the National Association of EMTs in ACLS, PALS, EPC, PHTLS, AMLS and TECC.
